Llanvapley
(A description written in 1891)
A Village and Parish through which the Mynachdy brook flows and the river Trothy is on the east, and it is on the old road from Abergavenny to Monmouth, 4 miles east from Abergavenny railway station and 10 west from Monmouth; in the Northern division of the county, Hundred, Petty Sessional division, Union and County Court district of Abergavenny; north-western division of Abergavenny rural deanery, Monmouth archdeaconry and Llandaff diocese.
The church of St. Mapley is a building of stone, in the Early English style, restored in 1861 by the Rev. John Lloyd M.A. and consists of chancel, nave, south porch and an embattled western tower, containing 2 bells: there are 140 sittings. The register dates from the year 1699. The living is a rectory, tithe rent-charge £150, net income £230, with residence and 52 acres of glebe, in the gift of the Marquess of Abergavenny, and held since 1861 by the Rev. John Lloyd M.A.,F.R.Hist.S. of Worcester College, Oxford, and rural dean of Abergavenny north-western division.

Post Office: Miss Mary Jones, receiver. Letters through Abergavenny, the nearest money order & telegraph office, arrive at 7.55 a.m; dispatched at 4 p.m. Postal orders are issued here, but not paid.
The Marquess of Abergavenny is lord of the manor. The principal landowners are Mr. Powell, Thomas Prosser Esq. and Richard Carlisle Esq. J.P. The soil is clay; subsoil, loamy. The chief crops are wheat, oats and barley. The area is 819 acres; rateable value, £1,366.
The population in 1881 was 105.
