Kilgwrrwg - or Kilgwrrog
(A description written in 1891)
A Parish 5.3/4 miles east-south-east from Usk station on the Monmouth & Pontypool line of the Great Western railway, and 7.1/2 north-west from Chepstow; in the Southern division of the county, upper division of the Hundred of Raglan, Petty Sessional division, Union and County Court district of Chepstow; eastern division of Usk rural deanery, Monmouth archdeaconry and Llandaff diocese.
The church is a small and ancient edifice of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and an open turret containing one bell: there are 50 sittings. There is a rude cross of some antiquity in the churchyard. The register dates only from the year 1813. The living is a rectory, annexed to Wolves-Newton in 1884, £64 yearly tithe rent-charge, gross yearly income £110, with one acre of glebe, in the gift of the Bishop of Llandaff and Archdeacon of Llandaff alternately, and held since 1884 by the Rev. George Platt Dew B.A. of Jesus College, Cambridge, who resides at Wolves-Newton. Parish Clerk: John Edmonds.
There is a Bible Christian chapel.

The parish is included in the United School Board district of Newchurch, formed in 1874; the school is at Devauden, Newchurch East.
The Duke of Beaufort K.G. is lord of the manor and principal landowner. The soil is a stiff loam; subsoil, clay. The chief crops are wheat, oats, barley and roots. The area is 659 acres; rateable value, £374; The overseers collect the rates in turn.
The population in 1881 was 103.
