Llangeview
(A description written in 1891)
A Parish on the south of the roads leading from Monmouth, Raglan and Chepstow, 2 miles east from Usk station on the Monmouthshire railway from Usk to Monmouth, 13 miles from Chepstow and 14 north-east from Newport; in the Southern division of the county, Hundred and Petty Sessional division of Usk, Pontypool Union, Usk County Court district; western division of the rural deanery of Usk, archdeaconry of Monmouth and diocese of Llandaff.
The church of St. Dochoe [St. David's?] is a small edifice of stone, in the Norman style, consisting of chancel, nave, western porch and a western bell turret containing 2 small bells: there are 50 sittings. The register of Baptisms dates from the year 1709: Marriages, 1713; Burials, 1711. The living is a vicarage, gross yearly value £100, in the gift of the Blower family, and held since 1866 by the Rev. James Blower B.A. of Jesus College, Oxford, who is also rector of and resides at Gwernesney. Parish Clerk and Sexton: Amos Davies.
In this parish, are Almshouses, erected in 1625 by Roger Edwards Esq. for 12 old and infirm persons, to be selected from the three parishes of Llangeview, Llangwm and Gwernesney; the founder also gave land for the support of the same by deed dated 1621; the management is in the hands of 14 trustees, of whom the vicar is one; the trustees for the charity were first elected in 1625: the Rev. John Jones M.A., vicar of Llangwm is chaplain of the almshouses.
Post: Letters from Usk by messenger at 7 a.m. returning thereto at 15.15 p.m. Usk is the nearest money order & telegraph office.

The children of these parish attend the schools at Llangwm Ucha and Usk.
The Duke of Beaufort K.G., lord of the manor, W H P Jenkins Esq. of Ludlow, and E B Reece Esq. of Cardiff are chief landowners. The soil is clayey; subsoil, clay. The chief crops are wheat. The area is 1,454A. OR. 27P; rateable value, £1,701.
The population in 1881 was 155.
