A Parish on the road from Milford [Haven] to London, 4.1/2 south-south-west from Newport and 2 miles north-by-east from Marshfield station on the South Wales section of the Great Western railway and 8 from Cardiff; in the Southern division of the county, Hundred of Wentloog; Petty Sessional division, Union and County Court district of Newport; Newport rural deanery, Monmouth archdeaconry and diocese of Llandaff.
The church of All Saints is a modern building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, south porch and a western belfry containing one bell: there are 130 sittings. The register dates from the year 1733. The living is a vicarage, annexed to the rectory at St Brides Wentloog, tithe rent-charge £208, joint gross yearly value £300, with residence and 47 acres of glebe, in the gift of the Bishop of Llandaff, and held since 1871 by the Rev. That portion of the road from Newport to Cardiff which passes through this parish commands a very extensive view of the Wentloog Level, the Bristol Channel and the coast of Somersetshire.
Lord Tredegar, who is lord of the manor, and Halswell Milbourne Kemys-Tynte Esq, J.P. of Cefn Mably, Cardiff, are the principal landowners. The soil is loam; subsoil, clay. The chief crops are corn and hay. The area is 765 acres; rateable value, £848.
The population in 1881 was 165.
